First time representing a new club and probably the last time in this indoor season. I will work with a new group, compete under a new club, and skip this indoor season.
Good season opener. After struggling with knee pain for the whole off-season and avoiding jumping, I hopped back into long jump for a month, and this meet was a test on the knee. It ended with 2 ~6.60m jumps with a 5 out of 10 pain. My goals were initially to make 3 full jumps and to see how my body responded. But after 2 jumps, I did not think I should push further. I felt pain, not horrible, yet I wouldn’t be doing any better with that pain.
My body is not ready for this intensity. I can rather keep pushing and getting nothing. Or I can be patient, do my diligence on healing my body and building stronger tissue to support the knee. The latter would make more sense. I decided to skip this indoor season at least in jumping to set myself up for a better year. I might do some 60m here and there, still, the focus is on the recovery.
As I always said, patience is learned through waiting. I am confident that my maturity can help me consistently work hard in practice and carry the momentum until the next meet.
